Brigadier General James F. Burt
Commanding General
2nd Highland Brigade
Brigadier General James "Fab" Burt is the Commander of the 2nd Highlands
Brigade, headquartered in Fountain Inn, SC. He earned a Technical Degree
in Carpentry and is a graduate of the South Carolina Law Enforcement
Division School of Law Enforcement.
He served with the McCormick County
Sheriff's Dept. for 10 years and currently serves with the Edgefield
County Sheriff's Dept. In addition he currently owns Burt Electrical and
Plumbing in McCormick, SC. |

Noteworthy assignments include:
∙ 2nd Infantry Division
∙ 25th Infantry Division - Honolulu, Hawaii
∙ 33rd Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) - Vietnam
∙ 2nd BDE SC State Guard - Ground Zero, New York City
He graduated from the 25th Infantry
Division Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, US Army Jungle Warfare
School. He also completed the National Search and Rescue School in
Yorktown, VA and the Mountain Rescue School.
COL Burt joined the SC State Guard in 1984 and his assignments have
included squad leader, company commander, battalion commander,
regimental commander and 2nd BDE Executive Officer
His awards include the SCSG Medal of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal
Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Federal
Service School Ribbon, Emergency Service Training Ribbon, Longevity
Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Service Ribbon with 4
Silver Stars.
COL Burt assumed command of the 2nd BDE on 14 AUG 2010.
